Contoocook River Canoe Co. offers an introduction to kayaking course. The course is held on the Contoocook River in front of our shop.  

This course is designed for enjoyment and education of an entry level paddler. Topics will include paddling environment, personal preparation, personal equipment introduction, paddle stokes, basic rescue skills, safety and more.  

Our Classes run rain or shine.

Course Prices

6-hour Introduction to Kayaking Course held on the Contoocook River - $100.00 per paddler.

5-hour Rolling Clinic and Rescue Clinic held in the Rolf Park Pool and on the Contoocook River - $125.00 per paddler. Not offered this season.

Rentals

If you need to rent a kayak with PFD and paddle add $25.00 to the course price.

Ratio

Our student to instructor ratio is 6 to 1. The maximum number of paddlers in a course is 12. Once over 6 paddlers, a second kayak instructor will be added to the course. We require 4 students to run a course.

Private or group lessons are available.

Course Gear Checklist:

  • Kayak

  • Paddle

  • PFD / Life Jacket

  • Kayak / Canoe (if you are not renting)

  • Your lunch

  • Water

  • Change of cloths

  • Towel

  • Bug spray

  • Sun block

  • Water shoes

  • Tee shirt (wicking if possible)

  • Sunglasses / Hat with lanyard

  • If you are taking the rolling / Rescue Clinic you need a skirt for you kayak.

You WILL be getting wet so you will want to have a bathing suit on. If you like you can wear a pair shorts and a tee shirt over your bathing suit, wicking materials are best.
