Introduction to Kayaking

This course is designed as a short program emphasizing safety, enjoyment and skill acquisition for entry level individuals in the public, private and commercial setting. Topics will include your paddling environment, personal preparation, personal equipment introduction to paddle strokes, basic rescue skills and more. Read full course description here.

Rentals

If you need to rent a kayak with PFD and paddle add $25.00 to the course price. The instructional kayaks are touring or sea kayaks.

Ratio

Our student to instructor ratio is 6 to 1. The maximum number of paddlers in a course is 12. Once over 6 paddlers, a second kayak instructor will be added to the course. We require 4 students to run a course.

Course Gear Checklist:

  • Kayak
  • Paddle
  • PFD / Life Jacket
  • Kayak / Canoe (if you are not renting)
  • Your lunch
  • Water
  • Change of cloths
  • Towel
  • Bug spray
  • Sun block
  • Water shoes
  • Tee shirt (wicking if possible)
  • Sunglasses / Hat with lanyard
  • If you are taking the rolling / Rescue Clinic you need a skirt for you kayak.

You WILL be getting wet so you will want to have a bathing suit on. If you like you can wear a pair shorts and a tee shirt over your bathing suit, wicking materials are best.
